Old TJ Hughes Store, Sheffield
For the former TJ Hughes store in Sheffield, we designed an access scaffold to support façade re-cladding while keeping the site operational at street level. A key constraint was maintaining clear ground-level access so buses could continue to use the lay-by and passengers could board safely. To achieve this, the scaffold was conceived as narrow tower lines positioned in front of the main columns, with bridging beams installed to provide the required clear headroom for vehicles. Above this, the working lifts were widened using cantilevered ladder beams spurred from the primary beams below to create a stable, usable platform without compromising the bus route.
