Offshore
Scaffold Design and 3D Coordination
DH Scaffold Services Ltd provided scaffold design services for new offshore oil rig projects. Our work involved close coordination with multiple stakeholders to develop access arrangements suited to the deck layouts, surrounding structures and proposed construction sequence.
The challenge
The scaffold arrangements needed to accommodate access requirements within an environment containing numerous structural and operational interfaces. Support locations, ties, anchors and access routes had to be considered together, alongside the practicalities of scaffold erection.
Identifying potential clashes and installation difficulties before the scaffolds went offshore was an important part of the design process.
Our design response
DH Scaffold Services Ltd worked with the project teams through regular coordination meetings, reviewing access needs and resolving interfaces as the designs developed.
We produced and reviewed 3D CAD models and walkthroughs to help stakeholders visualise the scaffolds in context. These supported discussions about available space, potential clashes, erection considerations and access routes, allowing the proposed arrangements to be reviewed before offshore installation.
The coordination process informed the tie and anchor strategies, load paths and scaffold layouts. The final design packages included general arrangement drawings and supporting calculations, communicating the agreed arrangements and relevant engineering requirements.
These projects demonstrate our experience of coordinating scaffold designs for offshore applications, using 3D visualisation alongside engineering assessment to address access and buildability at the design stage.
