Perimeter Access Scaffold for High-Level Repairs

DH Scaffold Services Ltd was appointed to design a full perimeter access scaffold at Froomsgate in Bristol to support high-level roof cladding repairs. The arrangement concentrated boarded working platforms at the upper lifts, where access was required.

The challenge

Although the scaffold extended around the building and up to the required working height, the repair works did not require boarded platforms at the lower levels.

The design therefore needed to provide a stable supporting structure and suitable access at high level, while avoiding unnecessary boarding below. The tie arrangement and transfer of loads through the scaffold remained central considerations.

Our design response

DH Scaffold Services Ltd developed a tied perimeter scaffold with boarding limited to the upper working lifts. This reduced the quantity of platform materials and associated dead load at the lower levels while retaining the supporting scaffold beneath.

Our design package included general arrangement drawings and supporting calculations addressing load paths, the tie strategy and overall stability. The design also considered the proposed repair sequence and the requirements for maintaining stability throughout the works.

The project demonstrates our approach to tailoring scaffold arrangements to the work being undertaken, focusing working platforms where they are needed while addressing the stability of the complete structure.
